Lexington, KY and Trying New Activities

Hello Friends!

Living a creative life was in full force on our summer vacation! That’s what I want for us all: to try new hobbies, see new sights, and experience new and interesting endeavors! Well, we went to Lexington, Kentucky to help our son get organized and situated for his month-long stay in his ophthalmology rotation at the University of Kentucky. However, we couldn’t go and not enjoy the sights. So I created an itinerary, so we could utilize our time in an efficient manner. The first stop was a great breakfast at Josie’s Restaurant. If you go to Lexington, please go to Josie’s for breakfast because it was simply wonderful. The omelets were fresh and full of flavor; the potatoes were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside with just enough seasonings, and the biscuits were warm and fluffy. What a great meal!

Well, after the delicious breakfast to fuel us for our day, the first stop was the Kentucky Horse Park, which was about a 15-minute drive into the countryside. I’m not much of a horse lover, due to a childhood memory that still hurts to conjure up, but I’ve come to enjoy their majestic presence because of my little brother’s love for horses. The horse park did not disappoint! From older retired racehorses to extremely large powerful horses, to miniature horses, we saw them all. What a beautiful and interesting experience!

It was a really cool time, and we had other wonderful experiences, but I want to get to the point of my blog. I want us to open our minds to new things. It’s so easy to get stuck in neutral and not try or learn anything new. I think that’s really when we start aging and living a lackluster life. This time in my life has been so freeing! I will probably work a little eventually, but I’m praying that it’s never full-time again. I want to explore and live my dream of living a creative life. I want to open my mind to learning new things. When my children were growing up, I always admired how they were open to trying new activities and going to new places. When some children would say they were bored, my kiddos would embrace the newness of the adventure. That’s the spirit that I want me and Phillip to have: a spirit of embracing our lives at this age and learning new things. We can do it! It doesn’t have to be anything major. Just start with a new small hobby or explore your own town.

Well, the trip did not stop in Kentucky, so next week, I will share the second leg of our grandparent tour.

Be kind to someone today!

Shelly
