Hello Friends!
I hope you are well!
I wanted to talk a bit about dreams coming true at any age! Dreams are not just for the young! Older people can have dreams too! However, it seems like if a senior does something out of the ordinary, they tend to be reprimanded or ridiculed. How sad is that!
Is Ageism a Thing?
Yes, and it can get really heated online on social media!
I read today how ugly ageism can be. A 50-something-year-old female bodybuilder has to endure ugly comments on her YouTube Channel because she shares her life and pictures as an over-50 bodybuilder. As you can imagine, she really has an amazing physique, but people put her down because of her age, even though she has a bikini-ready body that any woman would love. It’s pretty sad that this beautiful woman can’t share her successes with the masses without derogatory comments.
Does Age Matter?
Well, I’m here to remind you that age is just a number, and we cannot give up on our dreams! Some amazing inventions and historical milestones have been made by folks over 50. I recently listened to a podcast about Diana Nyad who swam from Cuba to Florida at age 64. And who could forget South Africa’s Nelson Mandela who became president at age 75? Also, more current is our own US President Joe Biden who took the post at age 79. Why am I discussing this? I’m discussing this because I don’t want us to limit ourselves. I want us to continue to dream and accomplish our goals!
My Dream is Coming True
I recently finished a manuscript I’ve worked on for about 10 years. I have so many drafts of the manuscript, but I finally got it right. I took a leap of faith and a few dollars, and I hired myself an editor. He was a godsend because he walked me through revising and editing my manuscript, and after about 6 weeks, he gave me his stamp of approval.
Here I am at 59 years-old finally completing a dream that I thought would never come to fruition. Wow! It feels so good!
But! The journey continues! Now, it’s time to find a publisher.
Don’t forget to keep those lights flickering and hold on to your aspirations– whatever your age!
Don’t let ageism keep you out of the game of life!
Well, I’ll talk to you soon!
Remember, be kind to someone today! We need it in our lives!
Best,
Shelly
