50 + and Living a Creative Life

Hello Friends!

What does it mean to have a creative life?

Recently, an artist named Elizabeth Foley of “Radiant You” asked her Facebook followers this question. Her belief is —

“If you want to live creatively, start, stick with and finish your creative projects. Putting these tools into practice will make that happen.”

I agree with her; however, for me, living a creative life is trying new things too, not being afraid to share my creations with others, and trying new activities while creating new memories!

In all honesty, it took a tremendous amount of fortitude for me to step outside of my comfort zone and start a YouTube Channel, and it was even more of a challenge for me to create a website and blog. I felt like I would expose my life and others would judge me, but how could I live my life being afraid of what others would think?

My background includes a stint in television. I was a news reporter, weekend news anchor, and weather person.  Therefore, I loved the thought of being back in front of the camera. And to be creative and create videos and write was just what the doctor ordered for my Act II.

So, I started last summer when I asked God to release my creativity. He gave me an eBook and an illustrator for a children’s picture book that I wrote over 20 years ago. I started creating my KDP (Kindle Direct Publishing) journals and planners and planning and writing a historical picture book series. So, it’s been just fabulous to experience all of this creativity.

I’m so thankful that I finally have the opportunity to live a creative life. For so many years, I was so immersed in teaching that I could not find that creative spirit, and I could feel that emptiness. But now that I’m retired, I have the opportunity to embrace a new life.

Consequently, to me what it means to live a creative life is to be able to pursue my creative endeavors, whether it’s writing, creating lifestyle or writing videos or my fun short videos, or traveling and finding new adventures.

Another highlight that pursuing a more creative life has meant for me is getting out of my comfort zone. I’m a homebody who doesn’t like change, and that attitude kept me stuck. But no more, every day, I can create in a variety of ways and live my dream of having a creative spirit.

There are many definitions of creativity, but my definition is that creativity in your life is whatever makes your heart sing. What do you get immersed in and forget the time? I don’t think you have to have these amazing artistic abilities, but what has been on your heart— what have you been longing to do? Find a way to bring that to your life, even if it’s just a little, and LIVE a creative life.

Well, that’s all for now! Please take care and be kind to someone today!
