Hello Friends!
During times of stress, I’ve found that being very gentle with myself is essential. Finding creative ways to take my mind off the issue, even for a little while, helps me overcome the feeling of overwhelm.
Here are some simple tips that help me:
1. Do Something Small That Makes You Happy
Find a small activity that brings you joy without requiring much effort. I love taking a slow drive, listening to my favorite podcast, and getting a nice coffee. While driving, I observe nature, listen to the podcast, and get excited about my writing life or another interesting topic of the day. It’s a simple pleasure that makes a big difference. Or I will go to the library and look at the new releases or look for new writers that I can enjoy.

2. Walk in Nature
Being in nature is comforting to the soul. Just being amidst God’s creations can soothe your mood and take your mind off stressful feelings. I enjoy walking around my yard, watching the birds, and exploring our greenhouse. Seeing our bounty of cherry tomatoes and knowing we don’t have to buy any is pure joy! Nature has a magical way of calming the mind and uplifting the spirit. Also, Phillip and I try to walk on this wonderful, paved nature walkway in our city every Friday.Â
 3. Watch a Favorite Show
Your favorite show can take your mind off stress! Recently, I started watching Virgin River. Om goodness! I love the scenery, the storyline, and, of course, the characters. Finding a series that captivates you can be a delightful escape from daily worries.

 4. Do Something Creative
Engaging in a creative activity that isn’t too strenuous but makes you happy can be incredibly therapeutic. Creating helps take your mind off the problem and releases good endorphins. What more could you ask for? I love using Canva, a user-friendly graphic design platform. Even though I’m not an artist or graphic designer, Canva makes me feel like I am. I can create fun thumbnails for my YouTube videos, or creative book covers for my journals and planners.
The stressful job, issue, or political situation is still there. But at least you’ve taken your mind off it and found some joy and peace, if only for a moment. If we do this enough, we may fill our days with joy instead of angst.
Stay gentle with yourself, and keep finding those little pockets of happiness. 🌸
