Embracing the Creative Life: Finding Joy and Fulfillment After the Empty Nest

Hello Friends,

A few days ago, I found myself in a reflective mood, missing the vibrant days of raising my children and the excitement of the back-to-school season. My heart felt heavy with nostalgia, and I couldn’t help but wonder what my life would be like without my creative pursuits.

As a sort of introvert/homebody, I rarely engage in big social outings, but I cherish the connections I have with my family and a small group of friends. These relationships are incredibly special to me, and they provide a sense of belonging and support.

Living a creative life has been a lifeline for my mental and physical health. Engaging in extra activities keeps my brain active and my body moving, which is essential for overall well-being. Whether it’s writing, working on my YouTube channel, or exploring new hobbies, creativity brings a sense of purpose and joy to my days.

One of the most rewarding aspects of my creative journey has been sharing my expertise with younger generations. After retiring, I realized I needed to do more, so I started tutoring elementary students. This experience has been incredibly fulfilling, as I get to see the impact of my guidance on young minds.

I wrote and published my first book, “Writing Made Easy: If Writing is not Your Thing,” to help students who struggle with writing essays in composition classes. Knowing that my book can make a difference in someone’s academic journey brings me immense satisfaction.

For those just starting their writing journey, I’m also offering a free excerpt of my “Blueprint for Beginning Writers.” It’s my way of giving back and encouraging others to embrace their creative potential.

Even though I lean towards an introverted nature, I attempt to push myself gently out of my comfort zone. My husband, who loves to explore and try new things, has been a significant support in this endeavor. Together, we find joy in discovering new experiences and making memories.

Living a creative life has brought me so much joy and fulfillment. It’s a reminder that even after the children have grown and the nest is empty, there are endless opportunities to find purpose and happiness. If you’re feeling lost or nostalgic, I encourage you to explore your creative side. It can make a world of difference.

Thank you for joining me on this journey. If you know someone who could benefit from my book or is looking to start their writing life, share this post with them. And remember, living creatively is not just about producing art—it’s about finding joy in the process and sharing it with others.

Please take care and be kind to someone today! Our world needs it!

Shelly
