Hello Friends!
I hope this blog finds you well! Today, I would like to reflect on self-publishing my first book in my late 50’s. Well, it has been a dream for many years to write and publish a book. For the last 25 years, I’ve tried to write, but the time never seemed right. However, once I started preparing to retire, I also started trying to implement my creative life, which included writing and creating projects that I had always dreamed of.
After some prompting from a young Youtuber to use my experience to write an eBook, I sat down and started writing the book, and after about a year of working on it, I successfully published it on Amazon. I ran into some obstacles during the process, but I was able to use independent contractors with Fiverr to help me through the process. Wow! When I held that book in my hands, it was a beautiful day. It was a beautiful day for many reasons, but the main one was that in my late 50s, I had finally accomplished a goal that many just dream of.
So my question to you is what is your dream? What creative endeavor have you wanted to do but just never found the time or had the support to do? I know you’ve heard the old adage that time waits for no one. Wow! The way these months are flying by that is so true. I mention that because we must ask ourselves why are we putting off starting our dream and when are we going to start. The reason why I started this blog is to encourage people over 50 to live creative lives. There is so much research that shows when older folks use their brain that we can hold off dementia and other ailments, so for me, that was also a driving force to not sit on the sidelines.
It may not be publishing a book, but what is it that you have longed to do? What makes your heart sing when you think about it? What could you do to get out of your comfort zone and make a difference in your life or someone else’s life? Think about it, and when you come up with something, please share it with us.
Well, I will wrap up for now! Have a wonderful week and be kind to someone!
Best,
Shelly
